Detailed Itinerary Day to Day
Day 1: Welcome To Kathmandu
When you fly into Kathmandu, you’ll see the valley and the Ganesh Himal. Your first stop in Kathmandu will be Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple, an ancient Buddhist stupa atop a hill overlooking the city. Spin the prayer wheels and take in the scenery.
Day 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Chitwan
After a restful night on day two, you leave the Kathmandu Valley and head west to Chitwan, where you will board your plane for the short flight to the Terai region and Chitwan National Park.
The name ‘Terai’ refers to the extensive plains in southern Nepal – this area is the most northern extension of India’s great Gangetic plains, land won and lost over decades of struggle, and shares both Indian and Nepali characteristics and culture.
It’s a one-hour drive from the airport to your jungle lodge. The Barahi Jungle Lodge is spread across 30 acres and features 35 deluxe boutique guest rooms built as individual and two-in-one private villas. Tharu artisans’ works adorn all of the spacious rooms, each with its private bathroom.
Day 3: Safari Day – Jeep and Walking Safari
This will be a day you will never forget: a full day of safari! All wildlife activities are accompanied by a knowledgeable naturalist who will share his or her knowledge of the natural world. The greater one-horned rhinoceros spotted deer, and sambar deer, as well as a wide variety of birdlife, can be found in Chitwan National Park. There’s even a chance of seeing a leopard, sloth bear, or Royal Bengal Tiger if you’re lucky.
You have the advantage of having your resort right on the river, and you can sometimes see animals come right to the river’s edge to drink and bathe! Following your adventures, dine and converse under the stars.
Day 4: Boat Safari to Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge
After breakfast, walk down to the river’s boat ramp and board a traditional longboat for your transfer to Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge. This is also an excellent opportunity for birdwatching and spotting crocodiles, rhinos, and, on rare occasions, tigers on the river’s banks.
Your boat ride will come to an end near Tiger Tops, just before lunch. The lodge, nestled beside a lush forest and overlooking idyllic Terai landscapes, is the ideal place to unwind. In the afternoon, you can spend time in the jungle or take a bullock cart ride into the Tharu village near the lodge to learn about the Terai’s local culture.
Dine al fresco in the shade of a mango tree, and take a dip in the pool.
Day 5: Fly from Chitwan to Kathmandu
This morning, you may be able to squeeze in one more jungle or village activity before heading to the Bharatpur airport for your flight back to Kathmandu. The flight is only 20 minutes long. There is also the option of driving overland, which takes 5-6 hours depending on road conditions.
