The Annapurna Base Camp Trek (ABC) is an incredible journey through diverse landscapes and cultures, complete with rich mountain vistas, terraced fields, quaint Gurung villages, and a diverse range of flora and fauna. Mt. Annapurna (8091m) in Nepal is the world’s 10th highest mountain, and the trek to its base camp at 4130m/13549ft is one of the most popular walks on the planet. Furthermore, we arrive at our destination via Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), which is revered by Nepalese for its ethereal beauty. Furthermore, the Annapurna Base Camp trekking package is a popular choice among a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts, from solo female travelers to hikers traveling in groups to Nepal.

In comparison to most walks in this region leading up to the base camp, our Annapurna Base Camp Trek is only 11 days long. The route is intended for globetrotters who want to hike to the spectacular mountain’s base camp but are limited in time.

Highlights

  • Explore the Gurung villages.
  • Rhododendron and oak forests abound.
  • A glimpse of rural Nepalese life.
  • Delicious Nepalese Dal-Bhat.
  • Enjoy breathtaking views of Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and the Annapurna massif.

Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp trek is a spectacular out-and-back high altitude hiking route that takes you through a variety of environments in the Annapurna Sanctuary National Park. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and preparation for the trip

Bauddhanathn Stupa

When we arrive in Kathmandu, a representative from Deshatan Travels And Tours will meet us at the airport and transport us to our hotel. In the afternoon, we’ll have a pre-trip meeting where we’ll meet our trek leader and other team members. We can use this time to ask the management and trek leader any questions we have about our trip. In the evening, Deshatan Travels and Tours will host a welcome dinner. We will have excellent Nepalese cuisine for dinner, which will introduce us to the country’s food culture.

Day 02: Fly to Pokhara trek to Ghandruk

We take an early morning flight to Pokhara, a lovely lake city, and enjoy spectacular views of the Himalayas from the right side of our plane. After landing at Pokhara International Airport, we drive to Naya Pul (1 hour and 20 minutes) and begin the trek. We trek from Birethanti to Ghandruk, a beautiful village primarily inhabited by the Gurung community. Today, if time allows, we will also visit the Gurung Museum. Overnight in Ghandruk.

Day 03: Ghandruk to Chhomrong

At this point, we climbed for about an hour to Kimrungdanda. We can see Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhre), and Ganggapurna along the way. The Kimrong Khola is reached after a steep descent. We descend for a while after another steep ascent from Kimrong Khola to Chere Danda, and then it’s a gentle walk to Chhomrong. Chhomrong is a lovely village nestled in the shadow of the massive Annapurna range. In Chhomrong, spend the night.

Day 04: Chhomrong to Bamboo

We descend 2500 stone steps and cross the bridge above Chhomrong Khola. From here, it’s an uphill climb to Sinuwa. Then we walked through a beautiful forest to Kuldihar, followed by an easy downhill walk to Bamboo. Overnight in Bamboo.

Day 05: Bamboo to Deurali

We pass through a damp and cold bamboo forest before gradually ascending with a few steep sections. Only after we arrive at the Himalaya Hotel does the forest open up and we are back in the sun, with breathtaking views of the glacial river below. Before reaching Hinku Cave, there is a steep ascent through a much drier forest. The trail drops closer to the river from here before climbing again to Deurali, the most scenic stretch of the day. The vegetation is sparser, allowing for breathtaking views of the valley, the river below, and the sheer rock-face cliffs above, which are dotted with bands of wispy waterfalls. Spend the night in Deurali.

Day 06: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp via Machhapuchhre Base Camp

Climb gently through a river bed before ascending a steep trail to the mountainside. The hike from Bagar to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is moderately difficult. We get excellent views of the majestic Machhapuchhre as well as Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli, and Gangapurna from Machhapuchhre base camp, which is a truly rewarding experience. As we approach ABC, the vegetation disappears and the path widens as we enter the Annapurna sanctuary. From here, we have breathtaking views of Annapurna’s near-vertical south face towering above us. The sanctuary has a dynamic view with nothing obstructing the 360-degree panorama. We can once again enjoy breathtaking views of the Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, and other peaks from the base camp. Annapurna Base Camp is where you’ll spend the night.

Day 07: Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo

We return to Bamboo from the Annapurna base camp. Today’s journey is a downhill one, so it shouldn’t be too difficult. Besides, we’ll always have the extraordinary landscape to cheer us up. In Bamboo, spend the night.

Day 08: Bamboo to Jhinu Danda

It is an uphill trek from Bamboo to Kuldighar, followed by a downhill walk to Chhomrong Khola. Then we make our way up the stone steps to Chhomrong. The path then descends to Jhinu Danda, where we will spend the night. Today we will have the opportunity to relax in the hot springs, which are only a 15-20 minute downhill walk from Jhinu Danda. Stay the night in Jhinu Danda.

Day 09: Trek to Naya Pul then drive to Pokhara

We get to see the amazing hill landscape of western Nepal on our way to Naya Pul from Jhinu Danda. On the way, we stop for lunch. Our trek will come to an end at Naya Pul, where we will board our vehicle for the trip back to Pokhara. In Pokhara, spend the night.

*If the road connecting Jhinu Danda and Naya Pul is completed, driving from Jhinu Danda to Pokhara may be an option.

Day 10: Fly to Kathmandu

In the afternoon, we fly to Kathmandu. We will be escorted to our hotel once we arrive in Kathmandu. We spend the day relaxing, catching up on some last-minute shopping, and exploring any landmarks we missed on our first day in Kathmandu. We will have a farewell dinner in the evening to commemorate the successful completion of our journey. In Kathmandu, spend the night.

Day 11: Final Departure

Today marks the end of our journey in Nepal! We will be dropped off at the airport by a Deshatan Travels and Tours representative approximately 3 hours before our scheduled flight. We have plenty of time on the way home to plan our next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
